With summer almost upon us, the next few months are set to see plenty of major outdoor events.
For some people, these will mean big shows and festivals, from horticulture to music, when otherwise green fields will suddenly become covered in tents, prefabs, temporary stages and much else, with storage space also being needed to help store the food, drink and equipment needed for these showpiece occasions.
Sports events will also be taking place, ranging from big occasions like Ashes cricket matches or the Henley festival, through to small, local events like school sports days.
To this may be added school and village fetes, as well as plenty of weddings in which temporary structures will provide shelter from the elements in case of rain, and it can be seen that the summer is a big time for the hire of temporary space.
Creating space
The key issue for those planning an event is to think how much space will be needed, as well as what for. If a public event is going to require space under temporary canopies, the question is how many, as well as what size. For instance, it make sense to hire a large space if the speaker, band or attraction is likely to be very popular. That way, fewer people miss out on what they want to see.
Equally, it may suit some events to have a series of small facilities rather than one or two large ones. For example, a flower show might benefit from having a series of niche tents, each one dealing with a particular kind of plant, so that visitors know exactly what they are going to see.
For a sporting event, a temporary stand may be built according to demand. By using the flexibility this offers, this will again ensure the capacity is not set too low with many people disappointed and the crowd receipts less than they could be, while also avoiding the kind of errors that could lead to rows of empty seats.
Meeting demand
Having enough space for the people in attendance is not the only issue that needs to be addressed. There will also be a need for storage space. This has to be sufficient to ensure all the necessary equipment can be stored, as well as enough food and drink when there is a crowd. For an event like a wedding there will be a set menu and catering is an easy challenge, but at an event like a fair or a music festival the need will be simply to store goods in bulk and make as sure as possible that supplies do not run out.
Beating the weather
Finally, the good old British weather is the most important reason to have good temporary structures in place, with shelter from the elements always being important.
Of course, it is possible to get lucky and enjoy a few days of sunshine, but even then it is important when events last more than a day to be able to store things safely on site.
So, with the right temporary structures in place, a summer event can be sure to run more smoothly, come rain or shine.
