Our commitment to sustainability
Cleaner & greener
As with all businesses, our sustainability credentials have quite rightly been put under the spotlight in recent years and pushed to the top of the agenda. We understand we have a responsibility to the environment and our clients are increasingly interested in what we are doing to reduce our carbon footprint.
While this is a big challenge for construction, we will not stop being proactive in our efforts by welcoming innovation and supporting the industry-wide ambition to be cleaner and greener.
ISO 14001
We are a certified ISO 14001 company. ISO 14001 is an internationally agreed and recognised standard for Environmental Management Systems.
An EMS supports organisations in identifying, managing, monitoring and controlling environmental processes. It requires organisations to assess environmental issues relevant to their operations, such as waste management, resource use and efficiency.
The yard
Change starts at home and we have ploughed a lot of energy recently into improving the conditions of our own work environment, including the installation of eco-lighting and 30kW solar panels, which provide power to the whole site. Since we are in the flight path for Keevil airfield, we have not been able to install windmills but are looking for alternative options.
We have also invested in updating our marketing collateral so that all brochures and business cards are now printed on recycled paper. The vinyl finish is biodegradable and plastic coating is compostable.
Trees
We are lucky to be surrounded by the beautiful Wiltshire countryside and are passionate about protecting the land around us as well as its wildlife and habitats. In the past 12 months, we have planted 15 mature trees, 10 fruit trees and numerous poplars. We have also left the fields for rewilding, only cutting them right at the very end of the season.
Glulam
Creating an attractive, natural and warm environment, glulam wood is sourced sustainably. By planting six trees for every single tree that is required, we are able to minimise the environmental impact of using this stylish alternative material.
We have also invested in updating our marketing collateral so that all brochures and business cards are now printed on recycled paper. The vinyl finish is biodegradable and plastic coating is compostable.
Steel
Both steel & concrete have a bad reputation when it comes to climate change, however they offer longevity. The lifespan of galvanised steel is indefinite, unlike aluminium, which can expect to last between 20-30 years, and we always try to reuse it. Some of the businesses we work with are happy to have recycled stock which, after a clean and some modifications to strengthen it’s properties, is as good as new.
Carbon Balanced Paper
The advances being made in our industry at the moment to encourage more environmentally friendly practices are extraordinary and, as with all construction businesses, we are fully committed to doing what we can while trying to keep up with the pace of innovation. It...
